Microsoft has been working on a new redesign of the Windows 11 Start menu, aiming to address criticism from users who found the current version too big and taking up too much screen space.
The company is taking a different approach this time, incorporating feedback from users and moving forward with a new iteration that is expected to be better received.
According to a recent Insider build of Windows 11, several changes to the Start menu are already being tested, with a notable shift from previous updates.
One significant change will be the option to resize the Start menu, offering users a choice between a Large preset and a Small preset, depending on their screen resolution and personal preference.
Users will also have the ability to hide specific sections of the Start menu, including the pinned apps, apps list, and recommended sections, as well as their account name and profile image.
In addition to visual changes, the revamped Start menu is expected to include performance boosts, partly due to the introduction of the Low Latency Profile feature and the rebuilding of the Start menu with native WinUI.
These improvements are expected to arrive with the release of Windows 11 26H2 in October of this year.
