A 16-year-old Pennsylvania teenager believed to be responsible for the death of a Penn State student was arrested at a Colorado home after a month-long manhunt, authorities said. Azzubair Outen-Fleming was captured in Colorado Springs by the U.S. Marshals Service after he tried to deny his true identity.
He is being housed at a juvenile detention center pending extradition to Philadelphia, where he will face charges for the murder of 22-year-old Billy Schmidt. Schmidt was killed during an armed robbery attempt on June 6 at around 1:30 a.m. in Philadelphia.
Officers found Schmidt with a gunshot wound to his chest and he died minutes later, despite being taken to a local hospital. The shooting was captured on surveillance video, which showed Schmidt demanding his phone back before a gunshot was heard moments later.
The video also showed a man throwing a cellphone before another individual can be seen running around a corner, while being chased by Schmidt, who was then shot in the chest. Schmidt's father described his son as a "really good person" who cared about everyone and never hurt or bothered anyone.
Schmidt was on his way home from a bar where he was watching the NBA Finals with friends when he was shot. He was a student at Penn State, studying journalism, and was slated to graduate in December.
