Midland police arrest suspect after shelter‑in‑place advisory

Police in Midland arrested a suspect early Thursday after issuing a shelter‑in‑place advisory for the Little Lake Park area, located about a kilometre south of the downtown core.

The advisory, announced at 10:40 a.m., warned residents to secure their homes, lock doors and windows, and close curtains or blinds to avoid drawing attention. Motorists were instructed to avoid the vicinity and refrain from picking up hitchhikers, while the public was asked not to approach anyone acting suspiciously.

A substantial police presence was deployed as officers responded to reports of a possibly armed individual. The precautionary measure aimed to protect the community while officers searched for the suspect.

At 11:45 a.m., authorities lifted the advisory after the individual was taken into custody, confirming that there was no longer any threat to public safety. Residents were advised that they could resume normal activities.

Details about the arrested person and any pending charges have not been released, and officers remain at the scene to conclude the investigation.
