A man was taken into custody outside a High Point, North Carolina church after police discovered an array of dangerous weapons in his vehicle.
Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting an armed individual seated in the parking lot of Wesley Memorial Church. The caller described the suspect, identified as 44‑year‑old William S. Milliken III, as wearing camouflage and carrying a firearm.
An off‑duty officer present at the church spotted the suspect immediately and, with assistance from arriving officers, secured the individual without incident.
During a search of Milliken’s truck, police recovered two flamethrowers, two crossbows, more than 500 rounds of ammunition, rolls of black duct tape, three knives, oxycodone pills and a carbon‑dioxide‑powered launcher fashioned to resemble a handgun.
Court filings indicate the suspect also possessed a notebook containing addresses of churches, schools and public buildings, GPS coordinates, body armor, police scanner radios, handcuff keys and an enlarged map of North Carolina.
He faces charges of possession of a weapon of mass destruction, impersonating a law‑enforcement officer and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Bail was set at $250,000.
Milliken is being held at the Guilford County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
The police chief praised the rapid response, noting that swift action prevented potential harm and allowed congregants to return home safely.
