Two teenage suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the murder of a Penn State student.
Billy Schmidt, a 22‑year‑old journalism major slated to graduate in December, was shot and killed while returning home from an NBA Finals watch party at a local bar.
Police say the incident occurred on June 6 when the suspects attempted to rob Schmidt, seized his cellphone, and shot him in the chest as he pursued them. He was pronounced dead shortly after the attack.
The alleged perpetrators, identified as 16‑year‑olds Azzubair Outen‑Fleming and Kaiseem Smith, have been apprehended. Outen‑Fleming was arrested in Colorado, while Smith surrendered to Philadelphia authorities.
Both teenagers now face murder charges. Law enforcement has announced a combined reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrests.
