Mateus Fernandes, the recent £85m signing from West Ham, has given a clear indication that he would have relished the prospect of playing alongside United captain Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford.
In his first set of interviews with his new club, Fernandes named his Portuguese countryman as his idol in a TikTok Q&A session.
Fernandes also revealed that Roberto De Zerbi played a key role in convincing him to make the move to Spurs, stating that the manager was the 'main key' behind his decision to join the club.
'I'm very happy, I'm very excited for this next step,' Fernandes said in an interview with his new club.
'Of course, it's a massive club. I already know the city, the country. I spoke with the manager. I think he was the main key for me to join Tottenham and the project. We will fight for Premier League. We will fight for the first place.'
Fernandes went on to praise De Zerbi, saying that the way he spoke with him and his family was 'very special' and made the decision to join the club easy.
'I'm very excited to meet him, to meet the fans, to meet everyone, try to do my best and enjoy the moment,' Fernandes said.
Fernandes expressed his confidence in De Zerbi and the club, stating that he is ready for the pressure and excited to play for a big club with a manager who wants to win titles.
