Man with Flamethrowers, Crossbows and Large Cache of Ammo Arrested in North Carolina Church Incident

A 44-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly attempting to carry out a mass casualty terrorist attack at a church in North Carolina. The suspect, identified as William S. Milliken III, was taken into custody by police in the parking lot of the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church in High Point. He was found wearing camouflage clothing and armed with a variety of weapons. The arrest was made after a 911 call reported an armed man at the scene.

Upon searching Milliken, police found a launcher resembling a handgun, flame throwers, and over 500 rounds of ammunition. He was also wearing a plate carrier, a type of body armor. The suspect has been charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, impersonation of a law enforcement officer, and possession of a controlled substance. A search of his truck revealed additional items, including a CO2-powered launcher, two flame throwers, and two crossbows.

The police discovered a significant amount of ammunition and other items in Milliken's truck, including rolls of black duct tape, three knives, and oxycodone pills. The suspect's motives for the alleged attack have not been released. The police chief praised the quick action of the officers involved, saying it prevented a potentially dangerous situation from escalating and ensured the safety of those attending church services.

The community has been credited with playing a crucial role in preventing the attack, with witnesses reporting the suspicious individual to the authorities. A local resident expressed amazement at the events that unfolded, noting that the presence of police officers at church functions has become increasingly common in today's society. The police chief emphasized the importance of community members looking out for each other and reporting any potential dangers.

The arrest and subsequent search of Milliken's vehicle were carried out without incident, and the church services continued uninterrupted. The police chief thanked the community members who recognized the potential danger and had the courage to speak up, allowing the officers to take swift action and prevent any harm. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with details on the motive behind the alleged attack still to be released.
